About Us
How Girl of the Golden West Store was started....
Girl of the Golden West was founded in 2007 after an unsuccessful shopping expedition to find some fun cowboy boots in Colorado Springs. We couldn’t, and I decided to open a store that carried interesting high-end women’s western wear and accessories (fabulous belts, handbags, boots, mules, hats, and much more!).
Now in addition to a wonderful selection of women's western wear, we also carry some men’s wear (mostly shirts), and decorative items for the home.
We are all about the regional and the artisanal, and strive to carry unique gift items, art and jewelry that are made in Colorado. Think "beyond rubber tomahawks."
The store is named after a 1905 play by David Belasco which was later turned into a book, an opera (set to music by Puccini, as was Belasco’s “Madame Butterfly”) and four movies. The Girls of the Golden West were a popular country and western duo in the 1930s and 40s.
Brands we carry include Double D Ranchwear, Tasha Polizzi, Rockmount, Ryan Michael, BB Simon, Kippy’s, Lucchese and Old Gringo boots, and Spanx.
Our Approach
What makes Western wear Western? Here's our answer: Quality (the item should last a while); Practicality (it should fit the lifestyle you actually lead); and Versatility (you can dress it up or down).
My staff and I look forward to either meeting you in person at the store or through our new web store online!
Happy Trails,
Phoebe Schmidt
